DESK MICROPHONE SYSTEM
"Dream microphone" now appears in real life.

operators have been telling us what they feel is needed,
in a top quality microphone since 1996, and our
designers, engineers and technicians have responded with
the TX-2020 system.
CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE FREQUENCY RESPONSE
We refer to it as a "system," because, in
addition to just being a fine quality microphone, it also
includes an integrated preamplifier with a continuously
variable frequency response curve, under the
instantaneous control of the operator.
We feel that this approach is superior to dual microphone
elements, because instead of having just two switch
selectable frequency response curves, the TX-2020 system
provides an infinite number of response curves, all
available simply by rotating its 270 degree tone control
knob through its range.
When the knob is in the center of its travel (marked RC
on the dial), the unit exhibits nominally level (flat)
frequency response. This setting should provide the most
natural voice quality. Rotating the knob clockwise
introduces the punchy sounding mid/high frequency boost
in the response that is so effective in cutting through
on crowded frequencies. So, the operator is able to
select at will the exact amount of high frequency boost
desired in a particular situation.
Also provided (by rotating the knob counterclockwise from
center) is a high cut/bass boost continuously variable
response curve that can be useful in tailoring the sound
to suit particular voices and equipment combinations that
may result in overemphasis of the higher frequencies.
Operators will be able to conduct on the air testing,
using feedback from other stations, in order to determine
the best equalization settings, for their voice,
equipment and operational goals.
ACOUSTIC NOISE CANCELING (NO MORE FAN NOISE ON
Many operators complain that other microphones tend to
pick up and transmit the sound of their linear
amplifier's cooling fans. This sounds, on the air, rather
inelegant, if not downright obnoxious. The TX-2020 system
should solve this problem completely with its
state-of-the-art noise canceling electret microphone
element. The noise canceling feature operates
acoustically by leaving the back of the diaphragm open to
the environment, as well as the front. Therefore, when
ambient sound such as a cooling fan strikes the diaphragm
from both the front and back simultaneously, the
vibration cancels due to the 180 degree phase difference.
How effective is this cancellation? We estimate a cooling
fan sound would be reduced as much as 25-30dB, enough to
virtually "disappear it."
TELESCOPING MAST FOR ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT
Another problem area with many desk microphones is that
their distance above the operating table is not easily
adjustable, making it difficult and awkward to use with
certain combinations of table height and operator height.
The TX-2020 polished brass mast smoothly telescopes up
and down, to any height between 8 and 13 inches.
COMPATIBLE WITH NEARLY ANY RADIO
Compatibility with a wide range of different radios is
high on the operator's want list. The powerful integrated
amplifier may be set by the manufacturer to the correct
audio output voltage and impedance level, to match
virtually any radio, ever made. As long as connectors are
still available, it should work beautifully with the
oldest radios still in use, as well as with the latest
"whiz-bang" transceivers, and all equipment in
between. Adapters are available even for Collins and
RADIOS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TX-2020
We know of no radios that are not compatible with the
TX-2020 system. (But if you want us to make one for a
1940's or 1950's transmitter, such as Heathkit, Johnson
Viking or Collins KWS-1, you will need to send us the
IS THERE AN ADAPTER FOR YOUR RADIO?
Adapters: Yes, the TX-2020 utilizes an adapter
system, so that an operator may change back and forth
between a variety of different radios. Adapters using the
increasingly popular 6-pin and 8-pin (RJ type) connectors
are now available, as well as the more traditional 8-pin
and 4-pin round connectors. One adapter of the operator's
choice is provided at no additional charge, with TX-2020
purchase. We doubt there are many radios that we can't
make an adapter for. Additional adapters typically are
priced at $39.95, each.
PUSH-TO-TALK BUTTON INCLUDED
A high reliability miniature red button is included,
mounted in the TX-2020 base. VOX operation may also be
utilized interchangeably with PTT operation, with those
radios so equipped.
Height - continuously variable, 8-13 inches. Base - 1.9 x
2.8 x 1.2 inches. Microphone element - 0.8 x 0.3 inches.
9 VOLT BATTERY REQUIRED
We recommend using an Alkaline battery, Energizer or
Duracel brands are suggested
FREE CALLSIGN IMPRINT
The official radio station callsign of the operator is
imprinted on the base of each TX-2020 microphone system,
at no additional charge.
Operators told us they needed affordable pricing for
their "dream microphone." The more than
reasonable $139.95 (one adapter included) price is a
reality now, but like prices of other items, it
eventually will go up. Get yours BEFORE this happens.
IF YOU GET IT, BUT DON'T LIKE IT
In the unlikely event that you are not satisfied with
your TX-2020 desk microphone system, you may return it
within 30 days, in undamaged condition, for a full refund
of the purchase price, less original shipping and
ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
We guaranty to repair or replace any TX-2020 microphone
that fails due to a manufacturing defect, for a full
year. Accidental damage, misuse and abuse are not
covered. This warranty does not cover incidental or
consequential damages. The owner must telephone us for
shipping instructions prior to sending the product for
warranty service. 1-800-634-0094 0r 510-633-9353.
SHIPPING AND HANDLING CHARGES
USA charges are $10.95, Canadian orders, $14.95, all
other international orders are $23.00.
The TX-2020 desk microphone system and its associated
adapters are custom manufactured to suit the exact
requirements. Delivery in the USA typically is within
about 14 days. International destinations take slightly
longer, and vary by country, and customs procedures.
